I am writing this from the comfort of my hotel room as I travel for work and I am reflecting on the pure organized chaos that was our 24th annual Dayton Fair..... My poor husband has been to at least 10 of these fairs, which makes him an old pro... Anyone that attends a fair knows the amount of moving pieces that go into preparing for it, the food, clothing, show items, saddles, harnesses, equipment, fees ect and we added a toddler to the mix!!!
The fair started off with us pulling in to the fairgrounds and seeing our camping site absolutely trashed with ruts and mud. There was no way that we could pull our trailer in. Thankfully, we offloaded the horses and our friend was able to hook our trailer up to his tractor and pull us in.
We were all under a time crunch trying to get the camper settled and the animals cared for before noon when our daughter goes down for a nap. Miraculously by noon we had the trailer in a state that we could set the pack n play up and lay her down. My dad agreed to stay with her while we went and set the goat pens up and settled the goats in. By the time we returned from setting the goats up, my dad said she's not happy in there and we went in.... Avery had escaped her pack n play for the first time and wreaked havoc on our entire trailer!!!! There was destroyed food and conditioner everywhere..... We did damage control on the trailer and got her back down to sleep!!! What a first day!!! After her nap we got the camper into a liveable condition and started on washing the horses as the horses started showing on Monday morning. To top off the already stressful day out drop down window on the back of our trailer froze, from bad bearings, our awning ripped due to storms and our electric cord started smoking and had to be replaced mid week...... It was not a good start to the fair..... Check back to see how the rest of the week went!!!
I hope you all are having a wonderful late summer and if you are attending a fair, may your fair go more smoothly than ours did! Take care and happy goating!!!
